BENNINGTON, Vt. — EOS Ventures, of Hancock, Mass., is awaiting Vermont state approval to being construction of a $7 million to $10 million solar-electric generating project in nearby Pownal, Vt. Tyler Fairbank, CEO of EOS, described the project on Monday, Aug. 30, during a discussion on The Morning Show on WBTN 1370 AM. He was interviewed by Shires Media volunteers Bill Densmore and Michael Keane. The 2.2-megawatt facility will incude some 8,000 photovoltaic solar panels atop 4- to 10-foot poles on 10 acres. The site is at the former Green Mountain Park, a horse and then dog track that has been largely dormant for at least 20 years.   The key to the project working is a 25-year contract under which utilities will purchase the power it generates for 30 cents per kilowatt hour. That compares with 15 to 18 cents per kilowatt hour that consumers pay for electricity. The difference is a government subsidy that encourages renewable-energy projects, Fairbank said.  He said the project, when complete, will be the largest solar-panel array in New England.  Click on the link below to hear the interview.
